I went to a Parent teachers meeting today and came back filled with joy and happiness. Every single teacher told me how happy they were to see my children read. This is a sourse of great joy to me because I have worked hard to make it happen. Reading is one of the best habit you can have or you can develop in your child. It allows a person to develop a strong vocablary, writing and comprehension skills, a broader world view and overall personality development. A child who reads is self sufficient and can pass time easily. Unfortunately in today's electronic world the art of reading has dwindled.
Here are a few tips to start reading and to encourage your children to read.
.It is never too late to start. You can start at any age.
.Start small, pick out an easy book.
.Start reading for small periods of time everyday, one page, two pages.
.If your children are small start reading at bedtime with them for 10 to 15 mins everyday.
.Go to a bookstore on special occassions, bdays, pick a book and write down the special event on the first page along with the date. Many years later this will be a special memory for you when you see the date it will bring back all the happy memories from that day to you.
.Go to book events.Book festivals.Libraries atleast once a month. Buy a small book each time.
.Talk to your child about what they are reading ask a few simple questions.
.Tell people my child reads in front of your child with pride so that they know this is something you are proud of.
Make it a point to yourself sit with a book everyday, read a bit even if you are a non reader.
